Portuguese-speaking countries Business Confederation (CE-CPLP) leader Nelma Fernandes met with Macao businessman, Wu Zhiwei to discuss ties with the Chinese Special Administrative region.
Authorities from China and Portugal visited Quinta da Marmeleira wines´ stand at the 5th China International Import Expo, which opened saturday at the National Convention and Exhibition Center (Shanghai).
Macao wants further cooperation between the Chinese coastal province of Zhejiang and Portuguese-speaking countries (PSC) in areas like translation, finance, legal services, conventions and exhibitions, the Secretary for the Economy and Finance, Lei Wai Nong, has said.
Macao businessman Wu Zhiwei, owner of the Quinta da Marmeleira winery in Portugal, announced the launch of a travel agency to “establish a bridge between Portugal and China”.
Portugal-China trade and investment is set to hit new records after the pandemic, according to Macau businessman Wu Zhiwei.
“The pandemic situation will be temporary and, in the medium and long term, both the economies of Macau, mainland China and Portugal will certainly surpass new records of investment and trade”, the businessman, who is also a Portuguese national, told NOVO weekly newspaper in Portugal.
The Portuguese Consul in Guangzhou, the third-largest city in China, lamented the “ignorance and lack of interest” of Portuguese businessmen in this jurisdiction, one of the most prosperous and populous in the Asian country.
Three exhibitions kick off in China’s Macao Special Administrative Region
Macau businessman Wu Zhiwei, who produces wines in Portugal, will donate more than 200,000 masks to the Portuguese Ministry of Health, as part of the fight against Covid-19, the company told Lusa.
The increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Portugal, to over 12 thousand, generated a wave of solidarity in Macau, with important donations from the community, including one of more than 250 thousand protective masks by the Portuguese-Macanese group Quinta da Marmeleira.
Hospital equipment being used by medical teams involved in combating the epidemic of coronavirus, a strain now named COVID-19 by the World Health Organisation, started to arrive this week in Macau and the cities of the Greater Bay, sent from Portugal by the Quinta da Marmeleira company owned by businessman Wu Zhiwei.
